The Sky Center (New Mexico Suicide Intervention Project) offers no-cost counseling services for youth and families struggling with issues like anxiety, depression, bullying, recent loss, or family conflict.
🌟 Exciting news! We're opening doors to our gifted education program this year, and we want to make sure every student has a fair chance to shine. Our identification process is underway, and we're committed to finding the amazing talents in our classroom. SFPS provides state required hearing and vision screening for students in pre-k, kindergarten, first and third grades. Hearing and vision are essential for learning, communication and social development. These routine screenings allow our nursing staff to provide families with crucial information regarding any hearing or vision difficulties identified, along with relevant referrals. SFPS uses AirNow.gov as its primary source for Air Quality Index (AQI) information while also considering conditions at individual school sites, as air quality can vary across the district.
Principals may move recess, physical education classes, and other outdoor activities indoors at any time based on conditions at their school. Schools do not need to wait for a districtwide directive to make adjustments when conditions warrant.
SFPS will continue to monitor air quality and make decisions with the health and safety of students and staff as our priority.

Beginning this school year, Santa Fe Public Schools will use DIBELS (Dynamic Indicators of Basic Early Literacy Skills) as our reading screener for students in kindergarten through second grade, replacing Amira for these assessments.
DIBELS helps educators measure key early literacy skills and identify where students may need additional support, giving teachers valuable information to guide instruction and help every student build a strong foundation in reading.
We appreciate the New Mexico Public Education Department for providing districts with this option and supporting our ability to choose the assessment that best meets the needs of our students and educators.

Update on Our Water Donation Drive
Thank you so much to everyone who was ready to come together and support our first responders, workers, and families affected by the Frijoles Fire. Your kindness, generosity, and willingness to help our community means so much to us. ❤️
We have received word that additional water supplies are not needed at this time. Because of this, we will not be accepting water donations today, Thursday, August 20th.
We are incredibly grateful to everyone who shared our message, planned to donate, and helped spread the word. It is a beautiful reminder of how caring and generous our community is when our neighbors need us.

Air Quality Update
Due to smoke conditions and the current air quality alert for Santa Fe, Santa Fe Public Schools is calling indoor recess this morning.
We will continue to monitor air quality conditions and provide an update this afternoon.

I am happy to announce that we are continuing the Food for Kids Program at Kearny this school year!
The program operates on a "Grab and Go" basis. I will have the food bags ready and will send an announcement through ClassDojo and SchoolMessenger whenever they are available. Distribution will occur roughly twice a month (every other week), though schedule details may vary.
Please keep an eye on your messages, and if your family could use extra support that week, feel free to drop by and grab a bag!
