KEEPING OUR STUDENTS SAFE BY PREVENTING GUN VIOLENCE

For many young people, concerns about gun violence are part of the world they navigate every day.

SFPS Gun Violence Prevention Week raises awareness, promotes early intervention, and highlights practical steps that help keep students safe and supported.

This campaign is anti-gun violence, not anti-gun, and recognizes the importance of outdoor and hunting traditions for many New Mexico families.

We are empowering students to shape a culture of safety in their schools by:
Taking the Student Pledge Against Gun Violence
Use Say Something to report safety concerns.
Reach out if you need help with a conflict, stress, or other challenges. Talk to a trusted adult, or call 988 or another helpline.

Next week is Read Across America week, this initiative promotes literacy and love for reading. We will be celebrating by making it a spirit week. Please see the flyers attached.

Kearny is proud to host the LOVE AND LOGIC parent classes, through our collaboration with Parent Academy. These are 8 classes offered to parents, grandparents and staff of any SFPS student, completely free. Call Raquel Plaza at 505-467-2050 to register.

Students referred to the Summer Program by their SAT team by March 6

Students in the Pathway to Proficiency referred by March 6

Students referred by their IEP team by March 6.
Second Priority will be given to first come first served.

Seeking Community Input for ESEA Applications for SY 2026-2027

SFPS will be submitting applications under Federal Programs for ESEA Title I, II, III and Title IV, AND Title VI programs this spring. We welcome community input on our application.

Save the date, Kearny will be hosting a district movie night on March 6, 2026.

SFPS Community, please review this important message from the Office of Student Wellness regarding the increase in respiratory illnesses across New Mexico.

Bus Route 20 will run this afternoon. Routes 17 and 19 will not run due to poor road conditions. All routes are expected to operate tomorrow. We apologize for the inconvenience.

The Attendance Challenge countdown begins. On December 17, 2025, we will raffle off 5 Dion's gift cards. Students who have not missed school since 10/10/2025 are eligible to enter.

Great news from SFPS! 📚 Student reading proficiency grew to 42%, continuing our upward trend, while math proficiency held steady at 22% for 2024–25.

This progress is a direct result of our incredible teachers, school leaders, and students working together toward excellence. 💪
