Hello Kearny Parents and Families!

I wanted to update you on some upcoming dates and information about the Kearny Community:

  • No School - Please remember there will be no school on Tuesday of next week, Nov 3.  This is Election Day and we want everyone to have as much time as necessary to cast their vote.  We are grateful for our democracy and encourage all of you to take advantage of this important right to vote.

  • Attendance - We have added attendance guidelines to our website so parents and families know what they need to do when their child will be absent.  This will also give you information on the steps we go through to find and support those students who are not attending school regularly.  If you need any help getting your child online for school attendance, please reach out to their teacher for help.  You can also call Flor Barazza at 505-467-1801.

  • Cooking with Kids - We have another Cooking with Kids event scheduled for Monday, November 23 from 5:30 - 6:30 pm.  This is the Monday before Thanksgiving Break.  We will be sharing more information as the date gets closer.

  • Monday Morning Coffee House/Friday Lunch Bunch - I want to thank all of you who joined me for either coffee or lunch this week.  I will be hosting another Coffee House this Monday from 8:30 - 9:00 am, and another Lunch Bunch on Friday from 12:00 - 12:30 pm.  Please join me to ask a question, share an idea, or just hang out for a little while.  Here again are the links:

Please have a safe weekend.  This Halloween will be different for everyone, but staying home and staying safe is what’s most important to our families and our community.

Take good care out there.

Kind Regards,

Robin Noble

Image of supplies
Hello families,

There are old supply lists posted in stores at this time with an updated date encouraging you to buy supplies. These are not current. Parents please wait on purchasing supplies until you hear from us. Due to us starting online with distance learning, we will need to adjust theslists and without a doubt they will be much shorter.
Hola familias

¡Bienvenidos a Kearny Elementary School!

Kearny is a dual language school that serves close to 450 students in grades Pre-K through 6.  We believe in bilingualism and biliteracy for native Spanish and native English speaking students, and so we offer a two-way dual language program in addition to an English-only option. Our Spanish-speaking teachers come to us from Spain and Mexico, and this brings a truly global and multi-cultural feel to our campus.

At Kearny, we value social justice and equity. We celebrate the heritage of each and every learner on our campus, and we help children feel free to be themselves by working as a staff to learn about biases and how to dismantle them. We also work on these concepts with our students so that we can teach them to be kind and open-minded young people.

We value mindfulness at Kearny and start each day with moments of mindfulness during our morning announcements. Through the sponsorship of Los Alamos National Labs and in partnership with the Rio Grande Mindfulness Institute, staff are learning more about mindfulness so that we may practice this more with students in an effort to promote wellness and social-emotional well-being.

We develop our culture at Kearny through Positive Behavioral Intervention and Support. This essentially means that we provide support for students and focus on positive behaviors. Peacemakers, a student group, also helps to promote a harmonious school culture.

We develop the leadership capacities of our students through the Kearny Student Council. This organization of student leaders organizes fun days like Pajama Day, as well as school-wide service learning projects such as Pennies for Patients, a fundraiser for leukemia patients.

Kearny offers engaging programming, including ice skating for 2nd grade, National Dance Institute for 3rd grade, flamenco for 6th grade, and Cooking with Kids for all grade levels. Cooking with Kids teaches healthy eating and hands-on cooking. Kearny has also partnered for special projects with local arts collective Meow Wolf and with the Santa Fe School of Flamenco.  We have a robust robotics collection that students explore during their Science-Technology-Engineering-Math (STEM) time.

We offer Parent Academy evenings so that families can learn more about how to support the education of their children. We also have a Parent-Teacher-Student-Association that works to involve families and support the school.

If you would like to join a warm, vibrant, and progressive learning community, we welcome you to “la familia de Kearny!”. .
